Louie Bernard
Yesterday our 2nd son, Louie Bernard Alexander was born at 6:56pm. My labor was induced that morning after going 4 days past our due date. Louie weighed in at 7 lbs, 2 oz and measuring 19 inches long. Although he is in good health and both he and I are doing fine, he kept our day exciting and our nurses busy as his heart rate kept dropping almost every time they increased my medication or I changed position and he gave us quite a scare during the actual delivery. I'm not sure how low his heart rate dropped, but after my 2nd contraction of pushing, it became obvious that something was wrong and my doctor and the nurses were preparing to deliver a baby that needed resuscitation. I was told that if I could, I needed to get the baby out on the next contraction and when I did, the umbilical cord had a knot in it and was wrapped twice around Louie's neck. He was purple and not crying when he came out, but my doctor quickly cut the cord and he immediately began to cry. As I said, he is perfectly fine now, but we definitely want to thank everyone for all the well wishes and prayers as I'm sure they helped our little guy make a safe arrival into the world.
Here are some of his first photos. (Oh, and there is a photo of the umbilical cord, so be prepared)
